John has been a distinguished member of the Institution Of Analysts and Programmers for nearly 40 years, holding the grade of Fellow (Cmpn) due to his extensive and varied experience across many technologies and projects. In 2012 John was made a Companion of the Institution, for his work for the IAP’s Council and his support in modernising the Institution. His commitment to the Institution’s ethos and Code of Conduct ensures a high level of professionalism in all his endeavors.

While John was a member of the Council, he instigated Council members taking on more interactive roles, supporting both staff and manangement. He has held key roles including Web Site Director and Director Of Technology and Communications.

In 2013 Wellis Technology was contracted to provide the day-to-day management of the Institution. John became Operations Director directing the existing staff activities. Then in 2019 the rest of the Wellis Technology team took over the day to day administration, raising invoices, processing payments, designing and scheduling social media posts. Wellis Technology enhanced the member administration and system operations. Under his leadership John implemented several initiatives including digitising all the paper records, reengineering and streamlining the Applications process, creating a Disaster Recovery Plan, Organised Symposiums, Webinars, the IAP Coffee Mornings and completing the transformation of the IAP to a Charity.

John has written, many articles for the Institution on a range of subjects from software development, the Horizon scandel, Human- Computer Interfacing, AI and many other subjects.

On behalf of the Institution, John has represented and taken an active part in serveral activities, including being a member of, the Partlimentary IT Committee (PITCOM), The Trustworthy Software Initiative (now the Trustworthy Software Foundation), The Cyber Security Alliance, which founded the UK Cyber Security Council. He also is a member of both the British Standards Institute (BSI) and the International Standards Organisation (ISO) committees on Trustworthy Software (BS10754 and ISO ICT1/1/30313).

In 2024, Wellis Technology began the process of transferring the operations of the Institution, back to their Executive team.

John’s expertise spans various technologies and systems development methodologies, including database management, cloud computing, and cybersecurity and AI, ensuring innovative and reliable solutions for clients. His work has significantly impacted the field, driving advancements in technology integration and operational efficiency.
